Streetsboro — A group of third-graders at Campus Elementary School have been busy saving soles for the past several weeks.

Third-grade teacher Ashley Girt’s class has organized a collection of 1,900 pairs of shoes that will be distributed to needy people around the world, according to Campus Elementary School Principal Michael Daulbaugh.

“She does projects like this every year,” he said. “She likes to do programs where students take up an initiative to help other people.”

The entire school contributed shoes.

The shoes have been donated to LOVE, a program of Western Reserve Grace Church of Macedonia, aiming to collect 100,000 pairs of shoes and distribute them to needy people around the world.

The drive at Campus Elementary School lasted the last two weeks of the six-week collection by the church, she said. Throughout the donation period, students, parents and staff — around 400 individuals altogether — contributed shoes at the school.

Faith Baptist Church in Streetsboro was the nearest alternative drop off location, and Lions Club President Ed Lupton helped load the shoes when it was time for them to be taken to Western Reserve Grace Church, said Girt.
