Nursing in Today’s World4
This book is required for 2 classes I am enrolled in and written pretty well. There is not alot of fluff and is pretty straight forward.

nursing issues2
This book is easy to read, but quite honestly I purchased this because it was required of my school. I have not found it to be that useful, or interesting to make time to read the chapters through. A bit on the boring side.

Inexpensive, Xlnt Performing Budget DDR3 SDRAM4
UPDATE, Dec 27, 2009

One or more of the DIMMs has failed, and they are going to Corsair on an RMA Ticket that was “instantly approved” yesterday, and I mean within 15 minutes of my submitting the trouble ticket, I got back an email with an RMA#…it was very, very fast! I am sorry to have to report this sad fact, but I suspected trouble 2 weeks ago when I started getting incomplete WU’s in Folding@home, many in a row…so I tried a LinX 0.6.3 stability test, and couldn’t get past 2 cycles, Red ERROR message three times in a row. Hmmm, I thought…try MemTest and see what happens. So that was next, and instantly the SDRAM started throwing error after error, the RAM would not complete a cycle at all…it failed MemTest, test after test. Bummer!

Sadly this is the 2nd set of Corsair RAM I have had to RMA, both sets purchased here at Amazon.com. The replacement set on the Dominator RAM (12GB) was stellar, no issues with that…so here’s hoping that when Corsair replaces this set that it will also be exceptional RAM, not something that fails in such a short time. After all, I was running this RAM for less than 3 months when it failed, albeit at a stout overclocking of 4210Mhz @ 1.65V VDIMM, 1.3V QPI PLL VCore, 1.3V IOH PLL VCore, nothing really stressful on the RAM, and BAM! Failure of at least one of the DIMMs, so back it all goes.

I will report again here after the RMA is completed, and I check out what I get back.-Wavey Davey – 12-27-2009

UPDATE – 1/10/2010

Corsair RMA Dept sent me some super-nice XMS3 SDRAM in exchange for the 3 x 2GB set that I RMA’d to them on 12/26/2009. All 3 DIMMs have the identical coding on them: “09520481″ which matches the coding on the box’s part number sticker, so these have been individually matched as a set by Corsair, a very, very good thing! In addition the box has a special splash at the top where it is written, with a big check mark: “Intel Core i7 Processor Extreme Edition”…which the previous set did not have on the box, another good thing from Corsair.

I have had them installed since Tuesday Jan 5, and they are working great with my overclocked (4210Mhz 24/7) 2nd rig, which is principally a Folding@Home machine, though I’ll use it for work if my No.1 rig is tied up with something important and can’t be interrupted. I have the RAM set in BIOS at the identical settings as before–just like the 1st set, and the PC has been running smooth ever since I installed them, no crashes, no problems, just a fine running PC. I don’t know how much better than the 1st set these are, but it’s apparent that they are more stable and running strong. I’ll report back here if anything changes in the long run, but so far so good. Corsair RMA Dept gets a big Thumb’s Up for sending me this RAM, all matched and ready to rock straight out of the box!

I have been running this Corsair DDR3 SDRAM for almost a 6 weeks in a new PC build I put together in October 2009, and so far so good. The timing is pretty relaxed @ 9-9-9-24 Clocks from the factory people at Corsair. I have it set, for my complete specs, @ 9-9-9-24-74 1T Clocks, @ 1.65V VDIMM in BIOS, with my QPI PLL VCore set @ 1.300V since I am over-volting the RAM somewhat. In addition I am running a 58% overclock on the CPU, up to 4210Mhz from 2.66Ghz OEM Box Stock, which is a sort of “normal overclock” for a good running Core i7 920 CPU like I have in the build… specifically it’s a Batch# 3849B202 CPU, made in late April at the Costa Rica Intel CPU factory there! There, now you have all my secrets, hah-hah! Well, just kidding about the secrets, it’s just that I have never disclosed this build’s inner workings to anyone yet, so it’s an Amazon.com 1st Run Production I guess, to be showcasing my Core i7 920 CPU build with this great Corsair SDRAM on board!

More of the build, it’s got an EVGA BL-132-x758-A1 motherboard, from here also, and it’s running an ancient BIOS, I think it’s all the way back to May, 2009, yes, it is! Anyway, it’s stable for me, so go figure, and I’m not changing it for anyone at this point. The SDRAM is running great though @ that lofty 4210Mhz overclocking, and I am going no further there, so don’t ask me about the BIOS settings, because I’m not telling anybody what *those are*! I haven’t asked too much of the SDRAM yet, even though it’s rated @ 1600Mhz you never know about those things until you push it, and the SDRAM is being pushed to the tune of 1608Mhz presently, a little tiny overclocking, running @ 2:8 to 1 Command Ratio, but so far SO GOOD! Sometimes RAM isn’t even as good as its rating, but this stuff peaks well @ 1608Mhz, and has given me zero trouble so far.

I haven’t had to run any tests on the SDRAM yet, other than the normal stability tests of running LinX 0.6.3 for 10X iterations for starters, then a longer iteration of 20X so I could put the build into the EVGA Stability i7 Club, which is a good thing to do if you have an EVGA motherboard and are a good enough builder to run the rig @ 4Ghz or higher overclocking, as I have demonstrated that the rig is indeed stable there @ 4210Mhz…so into the Club it went, this humble Amazon.com parts pieces build. In fact, the only thing I didn’t get for this build from Amazon.com is the video card, and that’s a BFG GTX 285 OC 1GB Video Card, which I scored elsewhere…you really don’t want to know that source, and Amazon.com would probably censor it anyway.

That’s the story on the nice Corsair SDRAM that I sourced here at Amazon.com, it’s an excellent buy at less than $150 for a 3 x 2GB=6GB matched set…and it works great, honestly it does! I am not putting the build on the David Letterman Show, Tonight, am I? Nope, didn’t think so…thus it has some bargain basement SDRAM from here that works a treat, yes it does!

Corsair I7 Tri-Memory Kit3
Would have been 5 stars as my recent I7 920 build came out real nice except the second shipment from Amazon for the same memory they made the choice to send return memory modules that had been inserted into a different modules outer package. So did not get what I needed and had to rma and refund as they did not have any in stock. Told to purchase from another supplier at a much higher price. Went to Frye and purchased for $8 dollars more so customer service let me down. Onward.

Customer Reviews:

Owner since 19925
I bought these headphones in 1992, and unlike most of the rest of the stuff I squandered my money on back then, these were and continue to be the real deal.

My earpads have flaked off their coating like everyone else. But no need to buy new phones, you can order the earpads from sony.com or some specialty audio stores:

MDR-V6/MDR-7506 Ear Pad
PART: X-2113-124-1
PRICE: $6.00 (US)

A Classic5
I can’t recall how long I’ve owned my MDR-V6 phones, but it’s easily been ten years. The sound is excellent, virtually uncolored, and unlike other top of the line headphones like Sennheiser’s (which are VERY nice and well over $150.00) these sound as good used with a portable CD player as with a well powered home system.

It was time to replace them since the cord is finally shorting too much to ignore any longer and my ears are always covered with black stuff and foam from the disintergrating earcups. I asked around and a colleague who is the audio technician on a popular TV show told me without hesitation, these are the ones to buy. It’s what he uses on the set and at home. I’m glad Sony still makes ‘em. Maybe I should buy another pair for ten years down the road…

My favorite headphones5
The Sony MDR-V6s were the first really good headphones I owned. After about 15 years of use, the foam padding was a bit run down. After doing the exhaustive search for the best headphones, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD580s (I also own Etymotic ER-4Ps). Comparing the HD580 to my MDR-V6s, I would say that the MDR-V6s are better for two reasons. 1. The MDR-V6s are more comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and 2. The MDR-V6s have a telephone-like cord, which is easier to deal with than the straight HD580 cord. The sound quality was very good on both headphones, and about equal. I ended up buying new foam pads for my 15-year-old MDR-V6s, which made them feel like brand new headphones. I also bought a second pair of MDR-V6s, and shelved the HD580s for now.

Do not buy the MDR-600s by mistake. I have never used them, but I have read numerous reviews that state that the MDR-600s are inferior to the MDR-V6s. You can still buy the MDR-V6s, but they are harder to find. I bought mine at millionbuy because Amazon did not have them in stock. For some reason, the MDR-V6 product name at Amazon magically changed to MDR-600, even though it is an entirely different product. I am not sure why this happened.

The audioreview Web site has a great collection of headphone reviews.

Acer Laptop5
Excellent laptop and love the numeric keypad, you will too if your field involves a lot of calculations, it’s perfect. Fast shipping and came as described. It’s fast, light and hasn’t frozen once! I also have a Dell XPS and I have found that the acer is more efficient and more fun to use. The camera is also very clear. A great buy and one I would recommend to anyone!

Felicia’s ratings5
This is a very good product. It has a very clean and clear screen and very easy to understand. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

Working Great So Far4
I’ve had mine for about a week now, and I’m really enjoying it. I have used it as a full-on laptop and I have also used it connected to my wireless keyboard/mouse and larger monitor. The screen quality is great both on the laptop screen and when I plugged in a larger desktop monitor. Windows 7 is nice and so far it runs pretty fast.

The blue color is very dark/subtle (more so than it looks in the pictures here), so if you want a really BLUE one, this might not be it, but if you’re not sure you want a blue one, it looks black most of the time anyway.

I don’t find the speaker quality to be very good at all. It’s loud but kind of unbalanced (tinny, maybe) to my ears. It sounds great with headphones or my external speakers, though.

Built-in keyboard and mouse are fine, and I do appreciate having the number pad – can’t live without that.

I’m not a gamer and I haven’t done anything really intensive with this yet, but so far I’m very pleased.

Customer Reviews:

Pretty good, but didn’t work out for me3
I purchased the ButtKicker BKA300 based on prior reviews here. This is my first time owning one of these systems. The intended purpose of was for more immersive movie-watching and playing on a PS3. The kit was setup with a HDTV using the line out on the TV using a Y-adapter to split between it and a 2.1 (two satellites one sub) speaker set. The rumble unit was setup under one of the four rear legs of a three-person sofa.

Watching live concert music on the Palladia channel really gives the feeling of being there. I started noticing that on regular TV programming one can hear muffled sound on most dialog as if the sofa was the speaker. This is a bit distracting, and an annoyance that could be addressed by sound proofing the furniture a bit.
The blu-ray version of The Dark Knight has some loud low frequency passages that causes a loud metallic thump. At first I though it was bouncing against the furniture or floor, so I took a couple of mouse pads as a quick fix test and put them in between the floor and another between the rumble platform and the sofa, but it did not fix the problem. I then watched Pirates of the Caribbean, again on blu-ray, fortunately not much of an issue here.

Gaming on the PS3 was another issue. Playing Call of Duty 4 with the rumble kit really brings gaming to a whole new level. Unfortunately, once I went online, grabbed a sniper rifle and aimed at someone, every heart beat the game produces started causing the metallic thump. I had someone else play while I tried troubleshooting the problem and noticed it was coming from inside the rumble module as if it was bottoming out. A few days later a family member was playing Resistance 2 and the module was not working. It had stopped working within an hour of playing, and was very hot to the touch. Once it cooled it worked again so it appears that it disables to prevent damage. I tried multiple settings for several days, lowering the “volume” on the amplifier, selecting different modes (music, movie, game,) but was not able to fix the problem.

Ultimately, I decided to return the unit. Really disappointing, I recently learned from reviews of the bigger brother (400 watts min, 1100 watts max) unit also bottoms out; this one is 50 watts. I may still give it a cautious try.

Solid product5
I ordered the Buttkicker with no knowledge of what it would feel like, or if I would even like it. After installing it (very easy installation btw) I was impressed. Putting this thing under my couch made it feel like I was sitting on a very large, very powerful subwoofer. All the claims made about these things are true. The impact of these devices on a home theater system is stunning. If you’re thinking about getting one, stop thinking and get it. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing product!5
I’ve been enjoying my ButtKicker for five months now. The build quality impressed me and the instructions for installation are easy to follow. I’ve used it with Blu-ray discs/DVDs, an Xbox, and a Wii. To say that it adds another dimension to one’s home theater is an understatement. As a gamer, I was blown away. The vibrations are proportionate to what is happening in the game. For example, while playing a WWII shooter, grenades resonate more strongly than bullets, etc. Also, being able to in essence, feel the proximity of an enemy adds an amazing degree of realism. Surprisingly, games on the Wii in Pro Logic II were just as impressive as Xbox games in digital 5.1. Using the ButtKicker with movies feels like being at an IMAX. I was concerned I might be disturbing neighbors when I watched The Dark Knight for the first time using the ButtKicker as it was so intense. My neighbors in the apartments below me and those next door said they heard nothing. I haven’t spent a great deal of time using the ButtKicker with music but as was the case with movies and games, it delivers. That said, there are a couple things to consider before purchasing. As stated on their website, the BKA300 can’t be expanded. So know going in that this will work with only one couch or chair. Also, while there is a remote, there are no level displays on the unit’s receiver or remote itself. This was initially frustrating as I like different levels of intensity depending on the audio source. However, any smart remote can be used to control the ButtKicker which overcomes this issue. As an audiophile trapped in the budgetary constraints of being a full-time graduate student, the ButtKicker was the perfect purchase. It provides me the bone rattling experience of a dedicated home theater system before practicality allows me to have one. Any home theater enthusiast that lives in an apartment, dorm, or who uses their living room as their theater room should take a serious look at this product.

Your new ButtKicker wireless kit sends bass — accurately, powerfully, musically — directly into your couch, chair or seat. The result is a connection to the action that standard 5.1 home theater can’t touch.

  • Brand: Coronado
  • Model: CE12
  • Dimensions: 6.00″ h x 4.00″ w x 4.00″ l, .20 pounds

Customer Reviews:

Good for planets and deep sky too5
This is a good eyepiece. I bought it for my hydrogen-alpha filtered solar viewing telescope. It does not show any artifacts in the image caused by stray light. I didn’t see any stray reflections in the image or anything like that.

I tried the eyepiece with my nighttime scope and it works fine for planets and deep sky objects too. It works well when viewing faint galaxies and nebulas.

The apparent field of view of the eyepiece is about 50 degrees. It provides good crisp views. This eyepiece has a brass-colored finish making it very cool and classic looking.

This is not a solar-filtered eyepiece and can never be used for solar viewing unless used with a safe solar-filtered telescope.

Customer Reviews:

excellent digital photo frame5
I bought this for my dad while he was in the hospital and have been extremely pleased with it. The screen is large and bright, and the image quality is comparable to a flat panel monitor (in my opinion at least). It is not fuzzy and all the colors are vibrant. It accepts the major memory card formats. You can also store around 11-12 (usable) MB of photos directly to the device (although the description says 14 MB). Just use the included USB cable and it is basically drag and drop. While 11-12 MB is not a lot, you do not have to use the maximum file size for a photo for it to look its best on the device. I experimented and compared the same photo at 2 MB and at around 350 KB and could not tell the difference in image quality. (I used Apple’s iPhoto to reduce the image size.) The device also has a convenient auto on/off feature as well as an option to dim the brightness after 6PM. My only complaint is that the detachable stand that keeps the frame upright doesn’t “snap” into place and could slide off if improperly handled. Additionally, the stand is not adjustable so it only has one viewing angle, which is fairly upright. This is just a minor quibble for an otherwise outstanding product. (Actually, I have one more minor complaint. While there is a helpful printed quick start guide, the actual manual is on a CD. I couldn’t access the CD on my Apple (I presume it is intended for PCs only), but I figured everything out on my own so I don’t consider this a big deal.) The nursing staff loved it and inquired about buying one for themselves.

EDIT: I recently realized the detachable stand actually does “snap” into place. It just takes an extra twist.

Nice product – could use better documentation.4
I bought one of these frames after seeing one at a friend’s house. The clear / white acrylic design is like so many Apple knockoffs at the moment that it could be called iFrame.
Either way it’s a nice product. The screen is crisp and clear and loading up the photos is pretty easy but there’s a couple of gotchas that the documentation don’t really clarify.
First, if you use a memory card – by far the most preferable way of doing it – the photos must be in a standard digital imaging folder. For example DCIM\100MSDCF. Once your photos are in there, they must be a standard digital imaging name, such as DSCF00023. Photos with names like “my cat.jpg” won’t be read.
And secondly, whilst the frame is capable of rotating pictures stored in its internal memory, it can’t do them directly off the memory cards. My tip : rotate them to the correct orientation before uploading them to the card.
Apart from those two little quibbles, the frame seems to be working out just great for us. Because the screen is a relatively low resolution – 720×480 – I scaled down copies of a lot of my photos to 50% of the size they came out of the camera. I’ve managed to get abou 120 photos on to a 64Mb memory card and the Philips frame has had no problems reading any of them.
It has a couple of timed features which are nice. You can tell it to automatically turn on and off at particular times of day, and you can tell it to dim the brightness of the display at night (at user-defined times). So for example, ours is set to dim the display at 7pm, and turn off at 11pm, to come on at full brightness again at 8am. It’s a nice suite of features which adds to this quality little product.

Incredible image quality and ease of use.5
I received the Philips Digital Photo Frame a few weeks ago. After loading some of my pictures into it, I was immediately impressed by how well it displayed my photos despite the frames resolution limitation of 720 x 540. The screen also has impressively high contrast; blacks are very black and whites are very white. There is an interesting side effect to the screens high contrast; many photos actually have a layered look to them that simulates depth in the photos. To me that is very impressive.

The frame makes transferring images to it quite easy. You can either connect it directly to your computer via a USB cable or you can use any of a variety of flash memory cards (SD, Smart Media, etc.). But what is really nice about the process of transferring your photos to the frame is that when you go to transfer them it automatically adjusts the image’s size to fit into the 720 x 540 pixel limitation of the frame. You don’t have to do any resizing to save space on the frame, you simply choose which photos you want to transfer over and let the frame do the rest.

The frames operation can be customized to do a random slide show or to go through your photos in order. It also uses various types of wipes to transition between your photos. The delay between photos can be adjusted anywhere from 5 seconds to a full day. One of the most import features though is that you set a on and off time for it so you can trust that it isn’t running during the day when you aren’t at home to look at it.

Overall, I have been very impressed with this frame. The picture quality has proved to be exemplary and I found it very easy to set up. The only thing I can find that I would like to improve is to make the auto on/off feature a bit more customizable. It would be better if it would allow you to set different times for different days. However, that is a pretty small concern.

A Solution That Works5
I have been trying to find a way to easily carry a lot of camera equipment for quite some time. I have tried backpacks, shoulder bags, duffel bags, but none of them really worked all that well. Then I saw the Lowepro Street and Field system with completely customizable pouches, vests, belts, and accessories. It works great, you only get the pouches you need so there is no waisted space and you can organize them however you want according to how often they are used (put frequently used items in easier to access places.)

The variety alone of this system is worth the investment, but the quality and ease of use is also very high which is a big plus. You can get a case for any lens, camera body, or accessory you have. I even have cases for my cell phone and water bottle. One word of caution, be sure to measure your lens with the lens hood on backwards if you use them to make sure that the entire thing will fit into the pouch, because sometimes the lens will fit, but then the lens with the lens hood will not. I often carry 5-6 lenses, extension tubes, teleconverters, extra memory cards and batteries, and a bunch of cleaning supplies and other gadgets, which weights a ton. But when they are evenly distributed on this vest/belt Lowepro system it is actually very manageable.

The only down side is that everyone will be staring at you because you have thousands of dollars of camera equipment strapped to your body. But if you can overlook that, this is the way to go. I have used this system at many zoos without ever having problems, in fact just unzipping a single lens and switching seems safer to me than opening an entire bag of equipment every time you want to switch lenses. Many of the cases also come with a built in rain/snow cover so if the weather changes all of your equipment is not destroyed. You can also put just a few pouches on a normal belt when you are just going to take photos in the back yard or don’t need to take all of your equipment, which is nice. I really can’t say enough about how much easier this makes traveling with a lot of equipment, if you have been hopelessly searching for a better solution, consider this, you won’t regret it.

big5
I ordered this to carry my Sigma 200mm-400mm lens in. It is too big for the lens.

Minor light loss, maintains AF, well built5
This teleconverter is well built and is a good compromise to buyer more expensive telephoto lenses. It works well with all of my f/2.8 AFS lenses. It does slow the autofocusing a little but not to where it is a problem. You do lose one stop to f/5.6 but not a bad compromise given the price. Build quality is good. I also have, and recommend to 2X teleconverter in this product line.
