Great introduction for beginners.
I have absolutely no experience with yoga and have never used any kind of fitness videos regularly before. Despite this, I found Yoga for Indie Rockers to be easy to follow. Chaos talks through all the movements as she performs them, in such a way that even if you’re performing a movement where you can’t look at the TV screen you still know what you should be doing. I’ve gone through the entire session twice now and I don’t find any of the poses to be confusing. There is also a handy beginner’s session which goes through the poses she’ll be referring to by name – I recommend working through that once before starting the actual workout. There are a few poses she’ll refer to that aren’t in the beginner’s session (Wheel, Camel), but you’ll be able to follow along.
The music is actually pretty quiet, so even if you’re not into the music choices provided you probably won’t find it to be distracting. In my opinion, it’s certainly better than the repeating beats found on most of the exercise clips I watched online before deciding to buy this DVD.
The entire workout clocks in at around 40 minutes, so it doesn’t require a huge time sacrifice to do it every day. You can also skip around the chapters if you’re in a rush and just do the ones you find most beneficial. Some of the moves have beginning, intermediate, and advanced versions, so while it’s possible to go through the entire DVD on your first try, you’ll still have to work through it multiple times before you’ll perfect all of the movements.

It’s Okay for Beginners
I was excited to see someone put a spin on my same old yoga classes, and was excited for this to come in the mail. When I got it, though, I realized it’s just one simple workout with three alternate music settings. As anyone who uses workout DVDs knows, variety is the spice of life, or boredom ensues.

While Chaos and her friends are entertaining to look at, the workout is VERY basic, and as I said, not very long. I would have loved for this to have more “meat” to it. On a good note, the DVD was very good to show a different character for beginners levels, intermediate, and advanced users. So if you’re looking for a basic workout with a twist, this one’s good. If you need something more, you might have to stick with the same old same old.

Good Yoga workout
It’s not a long workout. It runs about 40 minutes. The teacher, Chaos, leads three students (beginner, intermediate, advanced) through a good whole body workout. The techniques are neither extremely complex nor overly difficult, and she moves at a brisk pace. The balancing series is somewhat challenging, but not to difficult for beginners with patience and drive.

One interesting thing. You have a choice of multiple music tracks or no music at all. If you choose the ‘no music’ option, you just hear the instructor. If you don’t like ‘indie rock,’ this is a good option.

A Nutrition/Cookbook Double Whammy
This is a truly incredible book. It is filled with TONS of nutrition information about the healthiest foods and the healthiest methods for cooking each of them. It also includes a quick-and-easy recipe for each specific food (e.g., tomatoes, cabbage, bananas), as well as a number of variations on that recipe. The recipes I have tried have all been incredibly tasty, figure-friendly, and easy to prepare. This book is large and packed with more information than you will ever be able to absorb. A recipe for Hijiki Cucumber Salad makes use of Hijiki and you can add in tamari and ginger. Many of the recipes include intriguing variations.

Imagine dipping fresh breads into a garlic dip made with fresh garlic, lemon juice and garbanzo beans. Do you only have five minutes to create a healthy snack? Try the Cranberry and Fresh Pear Cobbler. I loved the idea of adding yogurt and topping the tasty treat with granola. This idea has endless variations throughout the seasons and you can substitute any number of fresh fruits in season. This no bake recipe is delicious any time of the year. In the winter this book becomes very useful when you make your own chicken soups or stocks. You can then add the healthiest vegetables and even sliced organic greens to make delicious winter soups you can freeze and reheat at a moment’s notice.

Interested in how to use Turmeric? Advice is given on how to add the powder at the end of cooking for the best results. This is an anti-inflammatory agent used by the Chinese and in India. Dr. Weil talks about a tea that is made by people who live long healthy lives. You can also find it in tablet form, but it is more delicious when you cook.

The section on herbs and spices gives you ideas for what to include in your spice cupboard (dried) or refrigerator (fresh). Black pepper, ginger, dill, cilantro, rosemary and cinnamon are included. The section on dietary fiber had a few surprises, like raspberries are listed right along with carrots and eggplant so you can expand your ideas on what counts as fiber, vs. what you thought was fun for dessert.

A special section for fighting disease gives ideas on how to feel better fast. If you want to improve your hair and nail health, you can start to eat more “biotin-containing” foods and increase foods with Omega-3 fatty acids that can also help with migraines and depression. So truly as you increase health in one area, you increase overall health.

This book is definitely about lifestyle and incorporating healthy choices into everyday living. As I’m writing this, I just finished cooking a spaghetti squash and have chicken with herbs roasting in the oven. The aromas of home cooking are inspirational and the healthy way you feel when you cook with the foods recommended in this book is priceless.

In what seems like no time at all, you can bake squash, cook up a chicken dish for dinner and even make homemade bread with rye and oats. Having a bread maker, a blender, a good set of sharp knives and a few essentials like a steamer basket and a set of pots and pans (especially a stock pot for soups) will take you a long way while using this book. You don’t even have to make your own stocks because stock paste is readily available in most grocery stores.

Cooking can be as fun as creating art or making music. You are fully participating in the dance of life and feeling healthy and alive is the bonus of the “healthiest foods” lifestyle. Now when you go to the grocery store you can buy items you never tried before, because you have all the recipes you need and many of the recipes don’t even require “cooking.” Most of the ingredients are very familiar and the extensive index helps you to locate ingredients fast. So if you have strawberries from your last shopping trip, you can quickly turn to page 647 and make a fruit smoothie.

This truly is one of the most exciting “cookbooks” you will ever buy because it not only incorporates delicious foods into your diet, you become healthier with each recipe you try and you understand why you feel better. Honestly, this book will change your life!

A “must have” for everyone
I came across the web site for this book during my quest to find a diet for people with fibromyalgia (which I have). I found the web site to be the most imformative and best of it’s kind. Thus, I assumed the book would be the same. IT WAS AND IS WONDERFUL. This is not a book you read from cover-to-cover. I took the plunge on 10×50’s after reading a compelling article on the Cornell Ornithology website.

These Nikon Action EX 10×50 binocs are unusually well-crafted for a “low end” product. Their optics are sharp and bright, even at dawn or dusk. Their eye fatigue index approaches 18. Their ergonomics and controls are rugged and smooth. Most of all, the wiggle you’d expect from 10-power binocs are rarely a problem here because the frame is lighter than most products in this price-range. Indeed, without a harness or monopod, you can watch a Bald Eagle fish the surface of a river for a quarter-mile and not miss any of the action.

While I use these primarily to view raptors at distances of 500+ feet, they focus very clearly at 27.5 feet, too. Whatever the distance, the view is bright, the colors generally vivid and the detail superb.

That is not to say that Leica wouldn’t produce a superior product; but at a fraction of the price, nearly 50% off retail, they are wonderful. Keep a pair of 8×42 binoculars on-hand, especially if songbirds are your passion; but if you expect to do some long-distance viewing, these Nikons are a sensible buy.

Very nice product
Although I don’t have a lot of experience with good binoculars, the Nikon Action Extreme has impressed me with its quality, image brightness, field of view, and image sharpness. It’s a fairly large binocular and will tire your arms after extended handheld use. An excellent value for the price.

Great Binoculars
I bought the Nikon Action 10×50 binoculars to replace an old “no name brand” pair my father gave me 30 years ago. I didn’t use the old ones regularly until we moved to the Gulf coast. The old binoculars were in sad shape so I ordered the Nikon. Wow was I surprised. Bright, clear view, true color, I didn’t know binoculars could work so well. The EX Extreme is easy to focus, easy to adjust and light enough to carry around all day. The case that comes with them doesn’t provide much protection I’ll be looking for something better for travel. I’m looking forward to taking them on my next sailing trip.

There haven’t been any real extras on Funimation sets other than previews for their other DVD releases so I wouldn’t count on finding any here. The set is said to include English and Japanese language options with the original Japanese musical score in 5.1 Surround. I’m glad Funimation and Amazon are announcing the set as Full Screen Aspect Ratio because though I adapted to the cropped ‘widescreen’ Dragon Ball Z sets I can’t imagine watching Dragon Ball in anything other than 4:3 aspect ratio. I’m so excited for this to come out and can’t believe that my long standing wish to have the first uncut season of Dragon Ball is finally coming true. Thanks For Your Time.

It’s the series that started it all… “Dragon Ball”. Originally, a manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama for “Shonen Jump”, the manga series lasted from 1984 through 1995 and since the manga series has produced several anime series which include “Dragon Ball”, “Dragon Ball Z”, “Dragon Ball GT” and currently in Japan, a new HD broadcasting of “Dragon Ball Kai” and in 2009, an American live action film titled “Dragonball Evolution” was released worldwide.

“Dragon Ball” is the first arc of the series which aired in Japan from 1986 through 1989 and lasted for 153 episodes. The series was released by Harmony Gold USA in the late 80’s and then by FUNimation Entertainment in 1995 and uncut episodes were released on DVD in 2003.

But now the episodes will be released in the USA for the first season of “Dragon Ball” for the first time uncut, remastered and digitally restored.

“Dragon Ball – Season One” features a total of 31 episodes on five DVD’s. Here is a spoiler-less summary of each episode:

DISC 1:

* EPISODE 1- Secret of the Dragon Balls – Bulma and Goku meet for the first time.
* EPISODE 2- The Emperor’s Quest – Another group looking for the Dragon Balls.
* EPISODE 3 – The Nimbus Cloud of Roshi – Goku tries to help a turtle get to his home.
* EPISODE 4 – Oolong the Terrible – Bulma and Goku find a Dragon Ball in a nearby village but the village has been terrorized by something called Oolong the Terrible.
* EPISODE 5 – Yamcha the Desert Bandit – Yamcha, the bandit from the desert challenges Goku.
* EPISODE 6 – Keep an Eye on the Dragon Balls – Oolong joins Bulma and Goku on their quest for the Dragon Balls.
* EPISODE 7 – The Ox-King on Fire Mountain – The next Dragon Ball may not be easy to find especially since its located inside the home of the Ox-King.

DISC 2:

* EPISODE 8 – The Kamehameha Wave – Goku and Chi Chi go to Master Roshi for help to calm the fire at Fire mountain.
* EPISODE 9 – Boss Rabbit’s Magic Touch – While at another village, a rabbit turns Bulma into a carrot. Will Goku be able to beat this troublesome rabbit.
* EPISODE 10 – The Dragon Balls are Stolen – Emperor Pilaf and his group try to steal the Dragon Balls from Bulma.
* EPISODE 11 – The Penalty is Pinball – Emperor Pilaf traps the Goku and friends in a game of pinball.
* EPISODE 12 – A Wish to the Eternal Dragon – Who will make the wish to Shenlong after the Dragon Balls are gathered.
* EPISODE 13 – The Legend of Goku – Bulma and Oolong learn why Grandpa Gohan told Goku not to look at the moon.
* EPISODE 14 – Goku’s Rival – Goku meets his rival/training partner Krillin.

DISC 3:

* EPISODE 15 – Look Out for Launch – Goku and Krillin must find a date for Master Roshi in order to receive training.
* EPISODE 16 – Find that Stone! – Goku and Krillin continue to train while the woman Launch has a secret.
* EPISODE 17 – Milk Delivery – Goku and Krillin delivery milk as part of their training.
* EPISODE 18 – The Turtle Hermit Way – Will Goku and Krillin survive Master Roshi’s training.
* EPISODE 19 – The Tournament Begins – Goku and Krillin take part in their first World Martial Arts Tournament.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

When I first saw “Dragon Ball”, it was probably back in 1992 and the quality of this raw Japanese video was so rough and hard to watch, it was just bad. Several years later, I was able to catch the first few episodes that aired on television but the problem was that the schedule was inconsistent and our television network was quite bad.

So, it is great to see this uncut, remastered and digitally restored version on DVD. Presented in its original format of 4:3, one thing I noticed is how good this anime series looked on DVD. The series is nearly 25 years old and just watching it, FUNimation Entertainment did a great job in bringing this series out and making it look very good with only a hint of dust particles and scratches but for the most part, this remastered version definitely looked very good on DVD.

As for the audio, similar to the recent FUNimation Entertainment “Dragon Ball Z” and “Dragon Ball GT” releases, the English voice track with original Japanese music comes in 5.1 Surround, while the Japanese voice track is in its original Japanese mono. I watched both English and Japanese and of course, there are some changes in the English dialogue (ie. Master Roshi and in the Japanese track, Kamesama Sennen) and grew up watching the original Japanese version but for the most part, I have enjoyed the “Dragon Ball Z” and “Dragon Ball GT” dubwork that I found the English dubwork for “Dragon Ball” to be quite solid. Dialogue is clear and understandable and for audio settings, for both audio tracks, I found the best setting for me was to select on my receiver “Stereo on all Channels”.

Subtitles are in English.

“Dragom Ball – Season One” comes with the textless opening and closing theme songs and FUNimation Entertainment trailers.

That’s how I felt after watching the first season of “Dragon Ball”. I thought it was absolutely fabulous that the FUNimation Entertainment has released the series uncut, remastered and digitally restored but to also release the first 31 episodes as a box set like they did with “Dragon Ball Z” and “Dragon Ball GT”. For fans of any of the “Dragon Ball” series, not so long ago, it cost a lot of money just to purchase separate volumes of the series (which typically came with only a few episodes) and now, here we are several years later and definitely getting our money’s worth.

Also, to watch this series once again, not only was it a nostalgic time for me, it was just great to see the episodes and watching how fun, humorous and action-packed they were. Each episode was absolutely addicting and it was great seeing how awesome of a fighter Master Roshi (Kamesama Sennen) was back then and just seeing how the story evolved pre-Dragon Ball Z. Also, to see Bulma and Yamcha during their younger years was fun as well.

Although “Dragon Ball” is not as intense or action-oriented like “Dragon Ball Z”, the series still manages to capture a lot of action and although this is Goku when he was much, much younger, even then, he was no slouch and had very good fighting ability. And there was more emphasis on the storyline as well.

For parents wondering about the TV 14 rating, part of it is because Goku is nude quite a few times and also, when he finds out that females are not the same as males (and he hasn’t been around humans all that long), Goku tends to touch people in the crotch to see if they are male or female. Also, during Krillin’s fight with Bacterium, there are things that the opponent does that you will never seen in a television series, let alone an animated series. And the characters of Oolong and even Master Roshi are characters that are quite perverted.

As for the DVD, as mentioned, this is the best I have seen “Dragon Ball” look and 31 episodes for the first volume is pretty much a bargain for what it’s sold for. Granted, I wish there were some special features included outside of textless theme songs but overall, you’re getting your money’s worth with these box set releases.

Granted, if I had to find a negative and wanted to be nitpicky, I can easily complain that the fifth disc only contains three episodes and that the Japanese audio track was not in Dolby Digital 5.1 but truthfully, 31 episodes is still plentiful and for purists, you do get the Japanese audio track in its original mono format. Really, there is nothing I can really complain about this release. It’s a very solid release that is affordable and just worth it!

Overall, “Dragon Ball – Season One” is another wonderful release from FUNimation Entertainment. Fans of any of the “Dragon Ball” series will definitely want to make sure this one is in their collection. Highly recommended!

This is where it all begins
Dragonball fans have been waiting for a proper Dragonball dvd set for years. Due to the fact that lionsgate owned the rights to the first 13 episodes and the first movie, we have NEVER had all the Dragonball episodes uncut on dvd. So now it is time to enjoy this series uncut, uncropped (fullscreen aspect ratio 4:3)in the way it was meant to be seen. With the first 31 episodes on dvd, Dragonball fans will be pleased.

A nice product with a small drawback
I purchased one of these lens adapters instead of the Canon product because I already had several filters and hoods for the 58mm threads. It is a nice product. Sturdy black anodized aluminum as opposed to the Canon product, which is plastic. I can’t detect any vignetting or flash shadows caused by the lens adapter, but adding a lens hood does create problems. I leave the adapter on the lens with a skylight filter just to protect the objective lens element, which is exposed. Looks good on the S-3 so I just leave it there. Only problem is–the tabs that lock into the bayonet mount around the S-3 lens are undersized. The adapter locks into place OK, but then it’s a little loose and rattles in the mount. I put some tape around the tabs to take up the extra space until I can find a better solution. That said, I like the product.

Works great on S5 IS
The adapter I received doesn’t look anything like the picture, but it works just fine on an S5 IS. No rattle, locks up tight, and works with the Canon 58 mm haze filter just fine. Plenty of room under the adapter to zoom the lens; no interferrence anywhere. Black color matches the camera body; looks like a factory part, but much more durable due to aluminum construction. Cameta Camera had it to me in a couple of days, not bad since it came to the Left Coast from back east.

I just received my Digital Concepts Lens Adapter, I have the Canon S5 IS. The lens cap that comes standard with this otherwise great camera was simply driving me crazy! Darn thing kept popping off constantly. This Lens Adapter, other than looking like an absolutely great part of the camera, also allows for a new/firmer Canon lens cap (with eyelet and string) to be put on the Apapter (58mm)… one that is totally secure … and problem solved! I put a 58mm UV filter on the lens adapter, and we are in total business. FINALLY: That initial lens cap was designed to pop off if you powered up the lens to take pictures (so you wouldn’t mess up the lens motor). Unfortunately, as you well know, it pops off if you breathe in its direction. The Lens Adapter extends just a bit past the extended lens, so there is no accidental “crash.” If you are going wild over that initial Canon lens cap, BUY THIS PRODUCT!!
